My 8 tips for a happy and balanced life:
1. If you’re going to track one thing – track sleep.
Sleep is the most important thing in your life. Ensure you get enough sleep because your body and mind rebuild during sleep. In a way, “during sleep, you become yourself.” Everything else comes after a good night’s sleep. Remember, sometimes your body needs more sleep than usual. So don’t panic about it – but sleep on it.
2. If you’re going to follow one rule – follow the 80/20 diet rule.
You need to eat a balanced diet to feel energetic and live a long, healthy life. The 80/20 diet rule makes eating fun and easy. Enjoy all the great tastes of food. Remember variety. Don’t go to extremes. After all, you are what you eat.
3. If you are going to change one habit – change your drinking habits.
Are you drinking enough water? Too much alcohol? Make sure you give your body the right kind of liquid. Alcohol makes your mind and body messy. It’s also one of those things that affect not only you but your closest. Our body is 70% of water. Remember that. To live a healthy and happy life, you don’t need alcohol, but water you do need.
4. If you’re going to learn one thing – learn a team sport.
Exercising. Vital yet not. What, on the other hand, is vital is having fun with friends, learning new skills, moving your body while having fun, and learning about being a team member and a team player. Learning about winning and losing and what it takes to push forward no matter what. And that people will still like you. Learning about team sports gives you all the tools you need to succeed in life. Give it a go, and you’ll see what I mean.
5. If you’re going to love just once – love yourself.
It cannot be emphasized enough – you cannot love others until you love yourself—a fact you cannot hide from. If you feel like no one loves you, ask how much love you give yourself now.
6. If you’re going to listen to one thing – listen to your heart.
This is the hardest thing to listen to that there is. The voice of your heart is often overridden by outside and inside noises. Are you hearing the authentic sound of your soul? Once you find that tone, you’ll start living your life to the fullest.
7. If you’re going to be honest once in your life – be honest with yourself.
Honesty is challenging. Often, we give great advice to our friends with sincere intentions – next time you advise your friend – listen carefully; what if that advice was meant for you instead?
8. If you’re going to cherish one thing – cherish this moment.
This moment is all we ever have. If you have never thought about that, it’s time you do now. This moment is all you ever have – weird but so true –isn’t it? Cherish this moment.
These are the few lessons I’ve learned in my “rollercoaster” life. I wonder if, in a few years, my list will be shorter or longer. Refined or multiplied? We’ll see.
Love and happiness,
Mia Karlsson
